A spectacular large-format original double-page composition from Wika et les Fées noires, the second volume of Olivier Ledroit and Thomas Day's lavish fantasy series. The artwork was published across pages 10–11 of the original Glénat edition.
Executed directly in color on an exceptional 120 × 80 cm scale, the composition centers on the extraordinary airborne city or vessel amid deep blue clouds, surrounded by intricate inset scenes, fairies and characters. Ledroit combines acrylic inks with collage elements and elaborate gold-colored decorative borders, creating the densely detailed mixture of fantasy, fairy mythology and steampunk that defines Wika. Contemporary commentary specifically discusses pages 10–11 as two columns of panels arranged around a large central image spanning both pages.
Artist: Olivier Ledroit
Olivier Ledroit is one of the foremost artists of modern French fantasy comics and a major figure in the development of the bande dessinée medieval-fantasy style. He is particularly celebrated for Requiem Chevalier Vampire, Chroniques de la Lune Noire, Wika, Xoco and Sha. His richly painted work combines Gothic fantasy, elaborate costume, architecture, mythology and extraordinary decorative detail. Wika, created with writer Thomas Day, allowed Ledroit to combine traditional fairy tales with an extravagant steampunk universe on some of the largest and most ambitious original pages of his career.
