Notes: Original published interior comic artwork from The Avengers #52, page 16. This key issue features the first appearance of the Grim Reaper (Eric Williams) and Black Panther joining the Avengers. Both are featured on this outstanding action page, which also recounts the origins of Wonder Man (Simon Williams), the Grim Reaper's brother. The issue was written by Roy Thomas, with pencils by John Buscema and inks by Vince Colletta.

John Buscema (American, 1927–2002) was one of the defining artists of Marvel Comics' Silver and Bronze Ages. After entering comics in the late 1940s, he became a central Marvel artist during the 1960s and 1970s, with major runs on The Avengers, Silver Surfer, Thor, Fantastic Four and, most famously, Conan the Barbarian and Savage Sword of Conan. His powerful anatomy, classical figure drawing and cinematic storytelling made him one of Marvel's most influential visual stylists. Vince Colletta (American, 1923–1991) was a prolific Marvel and DC inker whose credits include The Mighty Thor, Fantastic Four, The Avengers and numerous other major superhero titles. Together, Buscema and Colletta were responsible for a substantial body of important late-1960s Marvel artwork.
