Original opening title page from Chris Claremont and John Bolton’s first Marada the She-Wolf story. Published unlettered artwork was supplemented with the title and text during production.
The artwork has had multiple confirmed published appearances:
Epic Illustrated #10 — Marvel, February 1982 — original publication.
Epic #5 — Condor, Germany
Epic #6 — Arédit-Artima, France, August 1984
Marvel Graphic Novel #21: Marada the She-Wolf — Marvel, 1985/86 — the story was reworked, colored and collected as “The Shattered Sword.”
Marada die Wölfin #1 — Splitter, Germany, 1986
X9 Spesial #12/1994 — Semic, Norway, December 1994.
Marada the She-Wolf — Titan Comics, 2013
The 1985/86 Marvel Graphic Novel publication is particularly important because Bolton’s original black-and-white/gray-wash Epic artwork was subsequently presented in color and the first two installments were combined under the title “The Shattered Sword.”
The page was published yet again in Titan’s 2013 definitive Marada the She-Wolf collection, which brought together all three Marada stories with restored artwork and additional material.
